How is output section being used with Kemper Kone?

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Head/Rack

So I built a 2x12 with two Kones in it, wired in series and running it from powered Profiler Rack. I'm playing around with the imprints and I realized you cannot store the imprint selection with a given rig, so whatever you choose, it's always that imprint. I'm finding that there isn't one imprint that works with every rig so I'm wondering how people are facing this situation. For me it would be great if the Kone settings (Output page 9 for reference) were storable to a rig, but I don't know what Bad Things this would do, so I'm wondering if folks have another way to manage.

  • There is a setting (cab block I think) where a rig can have a different imprint.

Basically there is a global imprint that is your choice for default imprint if you don’t specify an imprint in the rig. So you get the default choice unless you have stored a choice in the Rig.

It sounds like you only found the global default setting. .

  • I prefer the FRFR mode, it does allow the use of any IR. As most of us probably know by now, the speaker is crucial in the signal chain and there’s plenty of awesome IRs available.

Sound wise, I don’t vibe very much with the Imprint mode and I don’t really understand it TBH. Why be limited to a few Imprints when you have access to virtually any cab/speaker combination on the planet made by some of the best sound engineers 🤷‍♂️

Thanks I'll check that out. Earlier when I was doing this, using imprints on the output required turning cab off so I'm not sure if the cab setting would do anything but it's worth a try.

That is what I'm doing right now, and it is working well. Just really trying to check out all the options.

Enchilada_Jones explained it perfectly. The output menu includes a DEFAULT imprint which is applied in imprint mode UNLESS a rig specific imprint is selected in the cab section.

I think I figured this out now. As explained (by EJ), I can change the imprint for a given cab, and it doesn't necessarily have to go back with the preset, it can just be saved with a rig. This isn't exactly like using the direct Kone mode, but it works. This is one of those things that I just needed to play with it a little bit to understand. I had changed that imprint before and it didn't seem to do anything, but once the Kone cab was plugged in, the difference was clear. Next up, to try this with my own profiled combos

I’m not sure what you mean here. It literally is just a setting to override the global imprint with a rig specific imprint. You don’t need to change the “cab” just select an imprint. It doesn’t change anything else about the rig other than the imprint being used by the Monitor Out in imprint mode.

It's not in the rig it's in the cab block like he said. The point is not really that you have to change the cab. The point is that if you do change the cab, then whatever imprint is set in that cab comes with it. Yes, you can change it again, of course. And obs you can set it even if the cab block is empty. But it doesn't show anywhere if you select the rig. And when I say rig I mean the button on the profiler. It's not in the amp or the rig but it is showing in the cab. Maybe I didn't word it very well but using different cabs is how I was testing it since most of my rigs have cabs and it's the cab block where I found it. I'm going to have to try it out with an empty cab because I didn't try that before.

Just to be clear, in Kemper’s terminology a “Rig” is everything in the chain including the Cab section. I see now that you are referring to the Rig Menu which is a collection of some settings that apply to that Rig. So I get where your confusion is coming from.

The Cab section is the logical place for the imprint to sit as it relates to the Cabinet which is part of the Stack. I can see how your use case would make sense though when changing cabinets to experiment however you should be able to experiment with cabinets until you find the one you like then set the imprint at the final stage.
