Updated Player firmware - RigMgr recognizes the machine but does not see loaded profiles

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Player

Per the title, I loaded the new firmware on my player, downloaded Rig Manager 3.10.11... and for the first time ever, Rig Manager cannot see the profiles on the machines. Note in the first screen grab below the "Dango Player" shows 0 profiles - but it has many loaded. Any thoughts on how I can correct this? I've done the normal reboots of both my MacBook Pro (running Sequoia 15.5) and the Player itself, but nothing is helping. The Rig Manager also crashes every so often. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

  • Let's assume it is a software problem.

I would reinstall Rig Manager, the same latest version. Also ensure the Player has corresponding version of OS with Rig Manager, usually the latest version.

If the issue still persist I would enable beta versions, and try to use them.

For the reference: the same OS, Rig Manager 3.10.11 and OS Release: 13.0.2.59805 are the currently latest versions.

In the end I would check the cable. And then, contact the support.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks - appreciate the help! I have already re-installed the latest version of Rig Manager, and also went down a firmware version and then back up to the latest version on the Player... and still the same issue. I'm thinking it may be USB (the older printer-style connector that I have is on a USB2.0 plug, I'm wondering if my USBC Hub may be the problem... That's next on the list to check - thanks for the suggestion!

  • A poor USB cable was issue in my case. Unstable connection, drops in connection etc.

USB-B interface, even it's old. USB was introduced in 1996 and it's still good.

Hub is a good suspicion. On the other hand it worked with previous version.

Maybe a temporary downgrade of Rig manager (it it's possible with current OS version) could be a temporary solution.

  • Quick catchup - my older machine which has a standard USB2.0 port worked properly with the latest versions of Player firmware and Rig Mgr... but my new machine running MacOS15.5 still does not work.

One interesting difference - the old machine recognized the Player, and went into "Profile Synch" mode, where a popup appeared and the patches synch'ed between the laptop and Player over several minutes. The new machine DOES show the Player in the rig manager, but it's not going into synch mode. For this reason I'm less suspicious of the USB cable, although I'm still looking for a USBC version of the cable with a printer-style connector.

Any thoughts based on this latest update? Thanks again for your help!!!

  • It would be helpful to summarize your physical setup. Let's try it:

    • USB-B from player to USB-A to the computer. This is the working combination (older computer)
    • USB-B from player to USB hub (which one?) to USB-C to the computer (newer computer)

Is this correct understanding of setup you're using?

    Here's what's happening:

    - a) Player -> usb 2.0 printer cable (type B printer connector on one end) -> 2018 MacBook USB 2.0 port - WORKS fully

    - b) Player -> usb 2.0 printer cable (type B printer connector on one end) -> "LetsCom" USB hub -> 2022 MacBook USB-C port - FAILS to synch

I'll pick up a new cable to see if it works... but what's weird is that in scenario B, rig manager DOES see the Player connected, and knows what OS it's running, it just won't synch... so I'm not sure this is the actual problem. Guess we'll find out ;)

  • Some devices don't work well with some USB hubs ... especially hubs that have extra features beyond USB (e.g., ethernet, hmdi, micro/SD card).

My guess is there might be firmware changes that would fix this and there's some hard earned knowledge/experience to learn the nuances of the real world issues of USB.

  • I’ve had one work and one not.

No idea why, but it’s a thing.

Just curious - when a cable didn't work for you, did it completely fail to communicate with the Kemper device? In my case, Rig Manager detects the Player, it just cannot synch profiles with it.

What's also weird - seems like Rig Exchange numbers are not incrementing since I applied the latest update - on my other machine, there are a handful of new updates profiles on the exchange that don't seem to register on my newer Mac's Rig Manager. This is leading me to suspect the issue is not tied to the cable... but I'll know more tomorrow when the new cable arrives from Amazon.

Changed the title of the thread from “Updated player firmware - RigMgr recognizes the machine but does not see loaded profiles” to “Updated Player firmware - RigMgr recognizes the machine but does not see loaded profiles”.
  • Quick update - using a new cable and going direct from Player to MacBook did not work.

I can see that Rig Manager is trying to import when I connect the machine.... and then it crashes. When I restart, it sees the Player but cannot access it or see profiles on it.

Any other suggestions? I've deleted Rig Manager and done a clean install, I've downgraded and upgraded the OS on the Player, and it still doesn't work on this MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.5.

Thanks in advance for any help others can provide!!!!

    Best,

    Dango

  • SUCCESS!

I figured out how to solve this, although I still don't know what the issue truly was.

I had previously deleted the Rig Manager app, but not the library/application support files (because I had read online that this was not necessary) - I basically deleted the entire "Kemper Amps" folder in the Libary/application support area, and did a full reinstall... and everything suddenly started working as expected.

Again - no idea what the root cause was... but thankfully I'm back in business now ;)

Thanks to all for your help and support - I greatly appreciate it!

    Best,
    Dango
