Standard guitar test sound to browse profiles without guitar

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Stage

Not sure if I am missing something or if I am the only one who would love it to browse Rig Manager without having the guitar plugged in? In my studio workflow I could (of course) loop some guitar sounds and press the button browsing profiles, but I would love to browse Rig Manager with keyboard & mouse and just going through profiles one by one hearing the differences. I know, there are different guitars and pickup positions, chords, power chords, solo tones and more. But maybe one could record an individual guitar & playing style and keep this example for browsing in Rig Manager?

  • You would need a guitar DI. Then you would need multiples of them for different guitar pickups. Then you would need multiples of chord progressions. Then you would need... etc, etc, etc.

It's easier just to reamp your own DI.

Larry Mar @ Lonegun Studios. Neither one famous yet.

  • Here are a few ideas:

    • Play whatever stored audio tracks on your device and reamp them with the Kemper via the USB interface.
    • Use a looper (that can save loops) in front of your Kemper. Then you can listen to whatever you want.
    • Use the looper in the Kemper ... as long as you don't power off the Kemper and lose the loop ... and it has to be less than 60 seconds.

I think this is a good idea as it takes out the variation in playing. Personally I feel better removed from the equation initially to judge sounds.

It is something we could all do manually but its a hassle and so if there is a simple solution, I can see a benefit :)

  • What about using the built in looper? That's one of the reasons it's there

    THIS !

Looper in first position, you record a track and browse rigs and/or do some adjustements/add effects, etc....

    IMO, it's the more efficient.

I haven't got a lot of electric guitars but i hear i should (cause i don't do it ;)8o) change and work on my rigs when i pick another one...Even when i change the pickup position on the same one, i should have other rigs or settings....

I'm not persuaded that making rigs without my own guitar would bring something good :/ and don't think it's an easy feature to integrate ?!

  • using the internal looper is certainly a good way to go about this, but there is always the issue that the rig has no chance to influence the player.

a guitarist will always adapt the dynamics, phrasing, style etc. to get to know what the PROFILE can do, what it's good at.
simply feeding a DI into the PROFILER will not have this very valuable feedback.

  • The Tonex software does exactly this. I don't find it a very useful feature, but do enjoy using the looper pre to accomplish the same thing.

Of course it's better to play the rig live, but maybe consider how many people are reamping these days. It's extremely popular.

Agreed I know for certain that I attack the strings different for clean sounds, strumming etc. than If I play with some heavy chugging Djent type stuff.

reamping has somewhat specific purposes for me:
It's a backup in case the chosen sounds simply won't work in a mix (this never happens, really. Any choice made can usually be made to work. Options that encourage you to delay decisions are not the friend they seem to be.) DIs are great for remixes, or it can be beneficial to layer two or more sounds on top of each other.

But the way a PROFILE will influence the player is quite special to me, it delivers a momentum that might take the part to the next level.

Still, surprising results can be had from using a DI and seeing (hearing) what pops up, but the Looper in pre already covers this quite well.

  • All that is true of course. And as an example Fortitude was the first album where Gojira didn't reamp the guitars. It's probably a style thing.
