Player with Level 2 and 3 - is it basically as powerful as the Profiler, with integration into Rig Manager?

  • Hi lovelies, I am a music producer here and I have the Profiler. As part of my workflow I pair the Profiler Toaster with Rig Manager and I browse sounds on exchange and make edits to the sound on the Rig Manager. The profiler is run directly out straight into my UA audio interface.

Can I basically duplicate this exact workflow using the Kemper Player? Is there anything the player cant do that im currently able to do with my current workflow on the Profiler?

In this discussion, the original poster (OP) wanted to know if the Player is as powerful as the larger models. The answer is no; it is not and will not be.

It's as simple as that. While some individuals may like to express their hopes for additional features, it is important to understand that the Player will not be elevated to the same level as the larger models. No matter how many times this is repeated, it will not happen.

    It's funny,

When i read OP's needs, i would rather said the opposite. He wants to browse rigs from rig exchange and plug the player into his audio interface....

If he has got level 3, he can easily do what he wants and clearly listen to the exact same rigs as with bigger units....:/

Beyond hardware limitations, i've understood that Player's capabilities (electronic inside) was the same as bigger units, or close to, the reason why level 2 & 3 could be purposed.... I can understand that you've choosen to get rid of some features because you consider that it was too much tricky to use them on this unit and won't implement them but i didn't think there was some lack of power (don't know exactly what it would mean too) ?!

  • I have a powered head and a LVL3 Player. They are both phenomenal products but I don’t see them as interchangeable. The Player isn’t a small footprint Profiler, it is its own thing. The player has several potential uses (replacing the Stage isn’t one of them in my opinion).

I can see how the stage makes sense for someone who wants limited Rigs and FX live but relies pn an analog or hybrid analog/digital multifx pedalboard. That’s not me. By the time you add all the cost and space of power supplies, pedals, cables and connectors I would end up with something bigger than the Stage with less useful functionality (for my personal needs). But for many people it makes a lot of sense.

It also makes sense as a minimalist replacement for an amp with 2 or 3 channels and a couple of basic FX. Basically a simple pedalboard and an amp that all firs in the pocket of my gig bag. That’s one of the things I find really useful. We use a rehearsal studio with a really great PA and monitors so I just take the XLR out into the desk and off we go.

The other great use case for the Player is in the studio. If you have a home studio and set up your Kemper on the desk then it is a fantastic space saver compared to the bigger units. But for live use the Head/Rack/Stage seem a much more appropriate solution in most cases.

this seems to me to be the case for the Player ... an easy way for a new user to access all the Kemper universe of rigs and implement that into their existing pedalboard. Basically, use your pedalboard and access every amp in the universe (and some additional effects as well). I wish this had been available years ago when I switch from a 3-amp rig and pedalboard to Kemper. I would have been thrilled to use a Player to replace my amps, add a few custom effects, but keep my pedalboard.
