Received a Player today - not working

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Player

So long story short, I received an open box Player from one of the big stores today. And it keeps crashing (goes into the mode where only the Kemper logo is lit). Tried updating the firmware, factory reset etc.

My guess is it’s the WiFi mode that does it. Could be an issue with power. Same thing happens after a while when being connected via USB to my Mac or MacBook. Aside from sending it back in exchange for a brand new one (or maybe my money back and skipping the whole idea), is there anything else I can try?

  • Verify they gave you the correct power adapter. If it doesn't output 9v at 2.5A and 22.5watts it isnt the correct one and big box needs to make it right.

It says made for Kemper 2.5A 22.5W 9V - which is kind of insane for a flimsy little Chinese power supply. I don’t get why they couldn’t have built something more substantial inside the device so you can connect a regular power cable. Can’t stand these wall warts.

  • Oh well, found in the manual how to reset the WiFi/Bluetoth settings. It’s been stable since and actually connects to my phone now.
That would be good news if it takes. I’m still puzzled though why a full factory reset wouldn’t have done the same thing.

Edit: and it crashed again out of nowhere…

  • If the big box retailer has a reasonable return policy, you may want to send it back, and get a new one.

yes indeed. It’s through Sweetwater so they will take care of things as they always do. May even get here in time for the next gig over the weekend (which was the whole idea to try this for an acoustic only event). I wanted this as a backup for my head, acoustic DI, and for air travel. Now I hope this doesn’t warrant a backup for the backup and was just a fluke.

  • I've got the same problem (it happens more with bluetooth than wifi)

It's not solved yet, it crashes everytime i use bluetooth, Kemper knows it (i've already send a mail to the support), we have no date or information for the the resolution....

I won't buy Level II or III till my unit will be 100% stable, it starts boring me....One year with a 700€, and it's not stable. I was asking myself if i would not sell it to buy a Stage (not for this reason) but i can't sell a defective unit to someone.... I wait..... :cursing:

so this is a common issue or with some units? Because the one I’m sending back is clearly completely unusable even when not having WiFi or Bluetooth turned on. It just shuts down after a little while. If they all are like this then it’s useless. If some have this then Kemper needs to swap those out.

  • We don't want to prove anything here....

The OP meets a problem and wants to know if other persons are having the same one.

The answer is ; YES. We are not only two, there are threads about it in the dedicated forum....

Have others solved it ; Don't know (would like to and know how they did it)....

Does Kemper know it : YES.

When will it be solved ; Don't know

    Is that annoying ; YES

  • Just a reminder: This is the time of year you need to let electronics acclimate to the environment they are in before powering them up.

If a unit has been sitting in a cold warehouse for months and then loaded onto a truck at very cold temps for days, it will need to warm up for several hours before powering it on. Or condensation can build up on the cold components when the warm air hits them.

I just purchased a new guitar and was surprised it also had a warning to let the guitar come up to temp for 24 hours before unpacking or the finish may be damaged from rapid expansion.

In other words, dont buy stuff in Winter 8o

Not to defend - but in S/W development, deadlines are one thing. Telling people ‘we’ll have it fixed by….” Is near insanity.

Every ‘fix’ (usually) breaks something else.

The trick is getting the ‘something else’ to be unimportant, or invisible to the user.

    ….and yes….it’s exceedingly annoying.

  • I wonder if A.I. will be able to fix bugs. I'm afraid it will make a giant bug and eat us.

I have a degree in Computer Science. I can tell you that bug tracking is a big PIA. So, I never complain about them, and I've never known any software that is bug free.

Larry Mar @ Lonegun Studios. Neither one famous yet.

Behind this question/answer there are many meanings.... I understand Kemper team doesn't know the date it will be fixed too... I won't blame them and i suppose this problem is not easy to solve.

But it should be fair to communicate better on this precise point. I feel i'm forgotten cause don't know if we are few or many (what is the proportion) or all ? i assume a lot of owners don't use bluetooth for streaming too, is that a firmware problem or a hardware (i think the first one) ?

Just want to know if it's one of Kemper's priority....

I've to restart it when i stream at home (1 to 5 times) cause it crashes....It's perfectly stable when i don't use wifi or BT...

I want to add that i'm pretty tolerant cause it's a Kemper unit and i know how they support their products.

I've bought a Hotone ampero Stage to see if it could become a good back-up unit. This unit is capable of profiling too. It's really a well thought/designed one and everything worked OK... But i've decided to send it back (the first time i did it) and keep the Player instead even with this problem.

I really like and know Kemperverse.... None of my Kemper units are ready to go.... But please give us informations

  • I returned the defective Player and received a new one today. That one works as expected. Transferred some rigs today for a show tomorrow evening. Let’s see how it goes. It’ll be acoustic only so I don’t have to worry about the other major issue (for me) that I discovered today - which is that the “pending” feature for scrolling through banks has apparently been removed even though it’s mentioned in the manual. This makes selecting rigs in a diffent bank during a song impractical as it will recall something else while changing banks.
So I’m still a bit on the fence if I just wasted over a thousand bucks (bought the LV2 and 3 upgrades thinking I could at that point jaut easily copy existing performances - well, apparently not but close enough with some patience and copying and pasting.

The “pending” function never applied to the Player. It refers to how Perfomances are loaded in Performance Mode on the bigger Profilers. The Player doesn’t have Performance Mode so their are no Performances to have “pending”

  • Ok, forget the “pending” question. Just got the new Player yesterday. Programmed everything. Sat down to practice a bit at the coffee table. Turned on the WiFi and Bluetooth to test that out and play along to some stuff a bit.

    And it crashed.

    This is not good.
