Unplugged my KPA when it was switched on, now it's dead...

    ☑️ Profiler Head/Rack

    Hi,

Yesterday I decided to move my mains cable for my KPA head from one power outlet to another, forgetting it was already powered up. After that my KPA is now totally dead. ;(

I then of course double checked that the cable was OK and the outlet was working. but no luck...

I have mailed support, but in the meantime is there something I can do? Is there a fuse that might blown or something easy to replace?

Very weird.... I've done this many times with my stage and never had an issue... it's no different to having a power outage while you're playing, so I can't see that unplugging it while it's on would be the cause...

Not sure if it will fix it or not, but I know with PCs it can cause them to refuse to fire up if the internal battery dies.... There's a watch type battery on the PCB inside the Kemper which allows it to retain settings when there's no power (the same as a PC) ... if I had to guess, I'd say the battery died, and when you pulled the plug from the socket, the Kemper had a hissy fit... You could try replacing the battery (it should just slide out from under its little retaining clip... no technical skill required and a supermarket will probably have the correct replacement).

I'll point out that I'm not an expert and am only guessing from experience with PCs, so this is not guaranteed to fix it, but it won't do any harm to try it.

Hope you get it sorted. 👍

of course the KPA will *not* be destroyed from (unexpected) power-outage.

but please do not tamper with the inside of the Profiler. This is something for support. That battery is there to keep the real-time clock running and nothing more: even a dead or removed battery will not cause the Profiler to fail booting.

simple / trivial things to double-check:

    - did you actually plug the cable thoroughly into the KPA again? (we've had several cases where the mains cable just wasn't pressed thoroughly enough into the KPA)

    - did you try with another mains-cable?

in the end: best is to contact support

  • I switch mine on and off with the power outlet switch all the time. If I recall correctly both methods are officially supported, removing power or powering down, both are described in the manual. Maybe you had some kind of a surge while plugging/unplugging the physical cable.
Ideally there'd be a replaceable fuse accessable from outside the unit.

  • Apologies, and thank you for the polite correction. I'll try to refrain from guessing in the future. 😊👍

    Yup, and Yup...

Tested multiple cables and outlets just to be sure. I'm used to unplug/re-plug the head every week for rehearsals, so I'm familiar with the mains plug. ;)

I mailed the support on Saturday and I'm awaiting response. (using the contact form)

Tried to power it up only directly after it happened or also sometime after? 10 Years ago we were on Tour in Ecuador. Had several power failures on Stage. One Kemper was not bothered, but the other one was always dead for several minutes and then just worked as before. If not tried several minutes after it happened, hope and try again.

  • Yup, now I got a auto response on the new ticket. 👍

So your email system seem to have issue with my .biz address.

Sounds like you have your own domain name, and so your own hosting? It might be an idea to check with your hosting provider whether the email server is running a spam filter that has settings that are too aggressive. If that’s the case, your email server could be marking emails as spam before they ever reach your computer, meaning you won’t even know about them unless you log into your email server and check in a spam folder there.
