Bass profile suggestions for Periphery style of tone that has distortion built in

  • Hello everyone! A new user here. I'm doing a music project with two friends and need a bass tone that has punch and oomph of bass amp but also some distortion built in but not too much. I've guitar sounds figured out but haven't found any good free profiles from the net that has what I'm seeking for.

I'm targeting to deep tone that has distortion mostly in high mid frequencies that you can hear every string attack. I'm using old Ibanez BTB 35" scale bass with active electronics and bartolinis that is dropped down to A (G for one song).

Here's something you could use as reference. I recorded the bass with pick but this time around I'm using my fingers. Would be using less distortion than the sample as the project will be different genre but focusing in metal. I'm a guitar player, main composer and growling vocalist in the sound sample.

  • While I’m no help finding a suitable profile, here are my suggestions for tweaking what you have found already:

    1. Find something you like but has more distortion than needed/wanted. Depending on where the gain knob is already, lowering it can be quite pleasing and open the amp up.

    2. The Definition control is your friend. More so than any other single control available.

    3. The Clarity control can help tune and articulate a distorted sound. It does nothing for cleans.

    4. Direct mix control means what it says. It will dial in some of the unaffected signal. Can be good getting some of the attack that may be missing. The pick parameter may help here, but it’s far more subtle.

To me - these unique amp controls are what separates the Profiler from other ‘capture’ devices.

I like his Trace Elliot profile named TRAZE E- EQ 1 - 2019-05-23 19-34-27.kipr for bass.
