Updating Profiler - Flashing Red but Nothing Happening

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Player

    Hello

I just bought a Profiler Compact. I'm trying to update it and I'll I'm getting is a message saying "Starting up and optimizing, this might take a couple of minutes"

There are 6 flashing red lights that occasionally change, but it's been about 30 minutes now and nothing has updated. The unit won't do anything at all. I can't even play through it.

Has anyone had this problem? At the moment it feels like a pretty brick with functioning LEDs

  • Reboot and it will probably work fine. I’ve had this several times. It appears to be an issue with the error message rather than the actual update.

6 red LEDs mean: Get in touch with support and send them a diagnostics file. Support will tell you if you don't know how to do that. We need more info on what happened there, which is in this file. Thanks!

Why do you think there's an issue related to the error message when you don't know any details about what happens? We appreciate your help, but sometimes less is more. ;)

For those interested in more details, Error 6 is what's called an Assertion/Exception on the bigger Profiler Models with a display. The assertion gives us context on what went wrong. The Player doesn't have a display, so the details of what has been asserted are stored in the diagnostics file.

  • I think you held the buttons (fx1 & fx2) down too long when booting up your Profiler. I had the same thing happen. Release them (the buttons) as soon as you see them turn orange when booting.
    Hope that works for you

I always update using USB stick.

    Hello

I did try that. They turn green in this case but it still isn't working. Back to six lights flashing!

We'll see what support come back with. It's quite frustrating. I've been looking forward to recieving this and I still haven't got to use it yet!

  • 4x LED red = something went wrong during firmware update, possible causes:

    • broken/bad USB stick
    • broken/bad download of ZIP file
    • broken/bad unzip of the ZIP file data (kaos.bin extraction)
    • broken/bad write to USB stick by host OS

you could try to re-download the update, re-unZIP, and use another USB stick (basically re-do the update procedure with a fresh download and a fresh stick)

    Hello

I did try this with a brand new stick. I went back to six flashing lights.

  • so: the fact that in-fact it *did* change something, indicates that there is something fishy going on with your setup / procedure

did you besides using a new stick, actually re-download and re-unpack ?

best is to contact the support : they will help you out further.

I did. I'm happy to try it again although I am perplexed as to how this is so difficult.

  • this isn't difficult at all for *a lot* of customers who do not have any problems with it.

.. but unfortunately you are experiencing non-typical problems at this moment : maybe it has something to do with your specific unit (hardware issue?), maybe it has something to do with the way you're downloading the data, maybe it has something to do with the way you're unpacking the data, maybe it has something to do with the way you write to the USB stick, maybe it has someth... etc. etc.

contact support and they will work this out together with you.

    Hello

I appreciate it might not be difficult for a lot of customers but evidently I'm not a lot of them! :)

I don't know how you can unpack a zip file and place it onto the root drive of an FAT32 USB drive incorrectly but either way, I've now tried a third stick and am back to six flashing lights. The only response from support so far today is to ask for my serial number. I can't find how to do a factory reset or anything like that and I can't find if there are any other button combinations I should try. Meanwhile, the set of gigs I bought it for begins rehearsing on Thursday and I'm no nearer actually having any rigs set up!

I really don't want to send it back. The customs charges to buy it direct were £130 and I'd get stung for that again!

  • - unpacking 'incorrectly' : for example virusscanner destroying the kaos.bin file after extraction

    - copying to 'root' ... sometimes this is unclear to customers where to actually copy to

    - 6 flashing LEDs : reboot/ contact support

did you observe that a firmware update actually took place at all? (there should be a yellow progressbar during update, and updating takes a while)

in your specific case: maybe the system doesn't recognize the update as being 'different' and skips the updating process? You could try to use another version first : for example first try to update with a release version, and then use a beta version (or the other way around)

    Hello

    Thanks for responding.

I definitely copied to Root. Double clicked to open and put the file straight in. I didn't put it through a Virus Scanner so I don't think that's happened.

I haven't observed any update happening. I unplug it, press the two buttons with the USB inserted and release the buttons when it comes on. The main light under the logo flickers and then I get the flashing lights.
