Threw together this pickup comparison of my handwound humbucker and P90 vs. the EMG 81. Quite different sound but it was the only commercial pickup I have handy.

The Tuuli hb is sort of made for blue/rock and the P90 is a higher wound for rock/heavy.

Great comparison, the hand wound has a very pleasing tone but the p90 sounds like it would cut through the mix better, the EMG is noticeably bigger and more full with that bottom end.

Thanks for checking it out! Yeah I made them for different purposes, the humbucker I wound a bit low in output for jazz/blues, and the P90 heavier for rock. I think the hb is around 9k DC and the P90 is 12k.

I'm surprised how much I liked the P90 with gain. I would have never thunk it. ;) The 81 always sounds good with the heavy stuff.

Me too! I've never owned a P90 equipped guitar, so I don't even know how it's supposed to sound. :D

P90 continously appear to me as the best guitar sound. Yet I still don't own one. What the heck.
