Wait to buy if you can until NAMM just to be sure. Something new might just come out. Jan 24-27.

Never thought of that. Interesting...I'm not in a hurry so that might be a good idea.

So a guy in my area has a pair of Yamaha HS80's for sale in great shape. $380 for the pair. Should I go with these as opposed to a new set of HS5s which would cost about the same?

If you have the desk space then I'd be all over it like white on rice.

Abso-freakin-lutely!!! Just doo-eet!

Yep, I'd go for it, jbird; it's a no-brainer at that price.

They're the HS80 as opposed to the HS8. Which I guess means they're the older version. Better? Worse? Big deal? No big deal?

No big deal for the price IMHO. Depends on your ears and applications!

I have HS80M and they are great. Maybe not quite as flat for reference as the 8, but I doubt you would ever care. They sound awesome.

Made the deal for $300. Picking up tomorrow. Sweet!

You are gonna love your Kemper in stereo with new Reverb's en-route.
I appreciate it when everybody can have as much fun as I have.

Excellent price, you won't regret it!

Congrats on your new monitors!
With a pair of those and the money saved, I would highly recommend picking up a TC Electronic Mimic pedal and putting in the X spot with stereo return.
It is really awesome sounding with the Kemper. (Also, props for the Kemper letting us add an external stereo output pedal.)

Do they sound like NS-10s or just look like them for the sake of marketing?

I've never hears NS-10s, but we've all heard music mixed with them.
Unfortunately I cannot properly offer an opinion, but I found this https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-…-questions.html

They were introduced as the modern take on the NS10s, Chris, IIRC...

...though they sound nothing like them! The NS10s greatest strength was their reproduction of transients and the tight time domain response you get with closed box speakers. They were anything but neutral and flat. The modern Yamaha speakers are all ported, which contributes to lagging bass response and smeared transients, though for the price, they are still a viable entry level speaker, and have a flatter response in the midrange than the old NS10s with deeper bass due to the ports. As hifi speakers (ie. for enjoying listening to music and not critical listening) they are excellent.
